Cowling Inducted into UA's Fulbright College Distinguished Alumni Academy

Dan Cowling, president of The Communications Group, a Little Rock marketing, advertising and public relations firm, was inducted into the University of Arkansas’s Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumni Academy for 2001-2002 during an awards ceremony at the university’s Fayetteville campus on Saturday, April 13.

In 1998, the College began offering Distinguished Alumni Awards, in recognition of the talents and accomplishments of Fulbright College graduates. The college is home to 19 programs ranging from anthropology to journalism to physics. Each department is allowed to submit one candidate for inclusion in the academy annually. From those nominations, the college selects up to six alumni for inclusion. Other Fulbright College Distinguished Alumni Academy inductees include former Arkansas Senator David Pryor, Kay Kelly Arnold, Bobby Roberts, ARKSYS Founder James Hendren, Donna Axum Whitworth, Skip Rutherford and writer Barry Hannah.

Cowling is a 1971 undergraduate of the Fulbright College and earned his graduate degree in communication from the university in 1973. Since founding The Communications Group, in 1987, Cowling has been recognized with awards and distinctions for his work in the social marketing, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Arkansas Advertising Federation in 1994 for his leadership role in the Campaign for Healthier Babies and the Partnership and Leadership Award for outstanding private sector leadership in public health in 2000 from the Tennessee Public Health Education Association.

The Communications Group, based in Little Rock, Arkansas, is a partnership of Dan Cowling, Neal Moore and Dane Cowling, and serves clients throughout the region. The firm has capitalized billings of approximately $12 million annually. The Communications Group specializes in social marketing, education and outreach and business-to-business clients, but also serves an array of other industry categories from tourism to entertainment to arts and culture organizations.
