Q: Is what you’re doing now what you always pictured you would do?

A: I pictured myself doing purpose-driven professional work that aligns with my personal values and fulfills my passions for service and adventure. I'm moving closer to this every day.

Q: What do you see as the greatest challenges for women in your chosen industry? What are the greatest opportunities?

A: In any industry, Black women often face greater challenges than White women because of the anti-DEI rhetoric and the over-emphasis on race in this polarizing political climate. We are sometimes seen as less than simply because of the color of our skin coupled with our gender. I see myself as Black first and a woman second. I choose not to focus on challenges and simply see opportunities. The greatest opportunities are to help others see people who are different from them, or people they look down upon (whether consciously or unconsciously) as capable, competent individuals who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

Q: Who has inspired you in your life/career?

A: I admire historical figures like Harriet Tubman, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Shirley Chisholm, among others.

Q: What advice would you give to an aspiring professional?

A: Get several mentors from different walks of life, different backgrounds, and different stages in your career.

Q: What's been the secret to success?

A: Living my life so I can hear these words: "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
