4 Steps to Short-Form Video Content

In the current age of social media content creation, short videos are everywhere and won’t be going away anytime soon. Fifty- seven percent of Gen Z and 42% of Millennials prefer video content to learn about products or services which drive more business to produce video content. Here are four tips to help make your short video content successful:

1. Plan your content

Decide what the objective of your video is and plan accordingly. Create a storyboard to help execute your vision and pay attention to trends. When participating in trends, they should be appropriate to your organization. Doing something off-brand can confuse your audience instead of entertaining them.

2. Record your video

Filming a video doesn’t require fancy technology. Use a cell phone or camera and film vertically. If you need extra stability, use a tripod or gimbal. Because lighting is a key factor in producing quality video content, aim to use natural light or a ring light. Keep the background clutter-free if filming inside. You want the video to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

You only have a few seconds to capture your audience’s attention and have a good hook to draw them in. Include a call to action at the end of the video to encourage the audience to engage in other content you’ve produced.

3. Edit your video

Include captions and text overlays on videos to make your content accessible to all users. If your video contains music, check the user rights, or use audio available to the public domain to avoid audio removal after it is posted. While some platforms allow in-app editing, third-party apps like InShot, CapCut and Adobe Premiere Rush may be easier to use.

4. Time to share your video

Before sharing, watch it over for any final edits and remove any watermarks before sharing across several platforms. TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts have video features optimized by posting on several platforms. Remember to share your video on platforms your audience engages in.
