Manufacturing: Something to be Celebrated

Manufacturing Day is a day many don’t think to celebrate. Here at The Communications Group, however, we value its importance and take pride in our manufacturing clients as we recognize the impact the industry has on the economy. Manufacturers contributed $2.77 trillion annually to the U.S. economy in the first quarter of 2022, based on Q1 2022 data from the National Association of Manufacturers.

To get an insight into what Manufacturing Day is and the impact it has, I sat down with one of our manufacturing experts Dane Cowling, agency founder and industrialist specialist.

“Manufacturing Day deserves to be celebrated just like Labor Day, Memorial Day and any other day where we celebrate the great things special to our country,” Cowling said. “Manufacturing is the backbone, ingenuity and culture of our economy.”

He said although the Industrial Revolution didn’t start in America, it blew up here. Without manufacturing, our way of life would be harder because manufacturing makes things easier and more comfortable for us. Technology, air conditioning (my favorite) and elevators are good examples of how our lives are better due to manufacturing.

“I hope what people get out of Manufacturing Day is that their lives are the way they are and continue to change because of manufacturers,” Cowling said. “It’s like agriculture. We couldn’t do without food or water, and the same goes for manufacturing. Almost everything exists because of it.”

Manufacturing used to be considered a dangerous occupation when it first started, but it has come a long way. The industry has evolved to become better and safer for those who work in the industry as companies no longer put their workers in hazardous working environments.

Some of that stigma is still present. Cowling said it’s easy for manufacturers to feel like outsiders because most people don’t understand what manufacturers do. Most people go about their day-to-day routines without considering how the manufacturing industry impacts their lives.

That’s why ComGroup is celebrating our manufacturing clients and the work they do to make our lives easier this Manufacturing Day, October 7.

“Manufacturing clients are the most down-to-earth people and more realistic in their expectations as they like to hear what you can do and not what you can’t do,” Cowling said. “Once you establish a relationship with them, there’s a mutual respect between what you do and what they do. They’re the most understanding people.”
