Rita Price
Director of Human Resources
Hometown: Jonesboro, Arkansas
Briefly describe your role:
A: As a senior member of the WD staff I plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the Human Resource (HR) department, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization's mission and talent strategy. In addition I am responsible for Safety overseeing all aspects of workplace safety, ensuring
compliance with regulations, and fostering a culture of safety within an organization. I'm fortunate to have a team whose hard work, loyalty and dedication makes leading a privilege.
Q: Is what you’re doing now what you always pictured you would do?
A: No, I wanted to be an International Spy, a Liberian or a Jewel Thief until I was about 17. Then I decided I would be a Marine Biologist and save the ocean.
Q: Who has inspired you in your life/career?
A: A former manager and a friend COO Shelly Bixler inspired me to remain in Human Resources when times were tough. She is brillant, kind and fun to work for and to be around Ihope to lead by example as she does. I want to show my team and other members of a business how to accomplish a task and be knowledgeable about what our team is doing.
Q: What advice would you give to an aspiring professional?
A: Be adaptable, learn everything about your discipline and about the industry you are working in. Volunteer for jobs that are not traditional to your field & leave your personal baggage at the door. Learn to be a professional and learn when it OK to have fun. More importantly find a team you work well with and trust to have your back. You don't have to agree on everything to trust someone. Don't take everything personal. I have seen so many people fail because of this one trait.
Q: What's been the secret to success?
A: Make a plan and then work the plan then adapt the plan. Be flexible and willing to adjust strategies. Know when to walk away. Learn about finances and Return on Investments. Talk to everyone from the CEO to the janitor. Be organized. Be loyal and trustworthy.
